Residential Care

Services may be provided under private ownership or through local authority funding. This standard includes the following:

• Integration in the local care system
• Assessment and admission
• Care planning
• Accessibility, independence and choice

The CHKS Standards criteria address these elements through succinct criteria statements that are supported by guidance which helps the organisation understand the intent of the criteria, so that it can be applied in the local context.

Additionally, references are provided to direct further reading on the relevant topic.

Throughout the standards the criteria are linked to key assessment frameworks including ISO 9001, the Care Quality Commission, Quality Statements and the Health Information and Quality Authority, (Ireland) National Standards.

Adult residential care services may be provided in a designated care home/facility, with or without nursing care. These standards apply to both facilities. Throughout this standard they are referred to as a ‘care home.’ The care home provides a safe and comfortable home for adults requiring support and care. Individual care and support needs are identified and accommodated in a homely environment, where privacy and dignity are maintained and respected at all times by trained and competent staff.
